Junko Hagiwara - Opening Night
2 October, 2015
Junko was born in Melbourne, Australia. When she was 7, she moved with her family to Tokyo, Japan. They migrated to Australia when she was 18. Junko graduated from Macquarie University and later studied for two years at the Julian Ashton Art School, Sydney, and for another two with Bela Ivani, also in Sydney. Since then she has exhibited in solo and group shows and entered and won a number of competitions and art prizes. She had a residency at Paris through Defiance Gallery in 2010.
Junko's work is all about capturing a moment and a feeling and it is expressed though en plein air. There is no capacity to fix mistakes, no repainting, every brushstroke is a decisive moment in capturing an elusive relationship between herself and the subject.
