Starting with an idea, my work is an expression of what I find elegant and beautiful in my world. Inspiration is seeded in my observations in nature; in capturing colour and narrative with purpose onto clay. I am particularly drawn to the expansive and expressive skies, landscapes and wildlife that I am exposed to in Australia and these play a very literal part in my work. Having spent over a decade as an illustrator, I employ those sensibilities on traditional pottery wheel formed and individually hand painted by me.

Many gathered to witness the absolute joy that is Niharika Hukku’s delicate, precise work. Through her hyprealistic illustrations on delicate, had-crafted, ceramic forms, Niharikka manages to bring her observations of nature to life. The combination of her detailed, precise illustrations on such a seemingly plain surface, gives her work a great subtlety, inviting all to peer in closer and almost expect her subjects to swim or fly around as we observe.
With a great turn out and an almost sold out opening night – Niharika Hukku is definitely an artist to watch.
