Artist Statement
Through my art practice my aim is to establish a spiritual and cultural connection with my country of birth. I do this by recreating and re-contextualizing traditional religious rituals, cultural practices and customs in a contemporary context.
My paintings develop from very personal and poignant memories of my Korean heritage and are expressed with gestural marks which are my personal script, derived from the Korean text, Hangul. My script along with my color choices, are evocative of the emotion buried in my memories and experiences and are a personal expression of these.
