'GIRL NOMAD CERAMICS'
Artist Statement
My work begins in its materiality; it develops through a conceptual enquiry, which is explored through process. It lures the audience with its fragility and intricacy, it aims to seduce to such an extent that the viewer feels compelled to uncover the layers of meaning inherent in the work.
The affinity with material is always the beginning; the vast textures, hues and finishes of clay continually unlock a myriad of possibilities. Conceptually I respond to social and environmental justice issues. Through the development of ideas and research I learn and question the status quo, sifting through the strata of life, posing more questions to the audience for thought and reflection. Process and language add to the depth of investigation that my work and I journey through together, the physical process of making is wholly integrated into the conceptual development of the work itself. While the development of my work is deeply involved the pieces themselves have a sensitive and harmonious aesthetic and are evocative of luminous landscapes.
