About the Work...
Kay Watanabe is a Brisbane based visual artist who is mainly working in the field of printmaking. Kay’s “Traces” series of works is the artist’s attempts to visualise clear and subconscious memories, which she believes dictate a person’s way of thinking and behavior.

She printed organic and abstract shapes and lines on the front and back of thin Japanese “washi” paper and layered them to represent accumulated memories. She added stitching lines to show that these memories are connected.

The “Traces” series was created using the printmaking technique called monotype.
